Job Vacancy at Swiss Cooperation Office Tanzania

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is an international development agency working in partnership with governmental institutions, NGOs, as well as with other national and international agencies. The goal of SDC is sustainable poverty reduction. In Tanzania the focus of SDC’s program support is on Private Sector Development in Agriculture, Health as well as on Governance & Accountability. The Swiss Cooperation Office Tanzania is part of the Embassy of Switzerland in Dar es Salaam.

In order to strengthen our Private Sector Development in Agriculture team we are currently looking for a pro-active, competent and integer person, who wants to develop his / her career in development cooperation in order to fill the position of a Programme Officer/Manager - Private Sector Development in Agriculture (PSD in Agriculture) - Senior Position.

Requirements
You are 35 or older and have minimally 10 years of experience in the development cooperation (in agencies implementing and funding development programs) and at least 5 years outside of Dar es Salaam in poor areas of rural Tanzania). You have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili and dispose of a Master degree in Economics or another relevant field. You have substantial professional experience related to the development of value chains in the agricultural sector of Tanzania (agriculture, pastoralism and forestry). The practical and the strategic side of project cycle management, especially in planning, monitoring and reporting are very natural to you. Your skills in the current Office IT tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) allow you to prepare concise and clearly structured reports, articles, presentations and numeric tables of a high quality in an efficient manner. You dispose of strong analytical and conceptual ability and have a good knowledge of Tanzanian Rural Development issues. You are a competent and proactive person of integrity, and your commitment to development work is outstanding.

Job Description / Responsibility
Follow-Up of SDC-financed PSD in Agriculture projects
- Review of half-yearly and yearly progress reports of implementing partners, participation in monitoring visits

- Day-to-day communication with implementing partners and co-donors

- Administrative handling of projects, e.g. contract negotiations, initiation of disbursements Strategic Development, Planning and Monitoring

- Monitoring of the implementation of the overall SDC PSD in Agriculture portfolio - Identification and preparation of new projects and programs

- Contribution to strategic planning of the portfolio for the Swiss Cooperation Strategy Knowledge Management and Communication

- Regular updates on SDC’s website, write media briefs

- Update the SDC team on developments about Tanzanian PSD and agriculture relevant politics and activities
